It wasn’t soon after my wife and I came home with our Golden Retriever, Mackenzie, that I became obsessed with dog products. It wasn’t enough to find an interesting toy or dog treat, but I wanted to learn everything I could about the item. What was it made of? Did it work as intended? What did other people think? How did it compare to other, similar products on the market?
One day I was considering purchasing a new vacuum cleaner. Of course I didn’t just want a vacuum cleaner, I wanted the perfect vacuum cleaner for a dog household. And not just any household, but one with multiple flooring types (carpet, tile, and wood). At some point my wife stopped by to ask me what I was doing. See saw the multiple tabs I had opened, the print outs on the kitchen table, and the decision spreadsheet I was populating. She told me I was crazy and walked away.
A few minutes later, however, she was back.
“What vacuum did you settle on”, she asked as she held the phone back to her ear. It turns out that she had told her friend, a fellow dog owner, what I was doing and her friend was also considering a new vacuum. She had started the search but got overwhelmed with the volume of information that she quickly and easily uncovered.
That’s when I knew…
FetchBetter was created to help dog owners make better buying decisions. My goal is to take a product category, learn about the top products in that category, while at the same time learning about the customers and what criteria they used to make their decisions. In the end what typically emerges is that there is rarely one “best product” but rather many bests – there are simply different kinds of products for different kinds of people.
